NEOS MARMARAS

xorioNeos Marmaras is a coastal town of Sithonia, the middle peninsula of Halkidiki. Located just 125 km from Thessaloniki.  Amphitheatrically is built on three hills belonging to the mountain Ntragoudeli or Itamos, main massif of Sithonia in altitude 811 m. To the south, the village is washed by the sea and appears like an island, combining the perfect blue sea green the mountain.

Neos Marmaras founded after 1922 when the refugees came from the island of Marmara.  Until 1967 many residents from the nearby Parthenon settled in Neos Marmaras.  When in 1970 the community removed the Parthenon, the village was abandoned and its inhabitants naturalized in the community of Neos Marmaras.  The marble refugees with the help and hard work of patriots who were in America, started making their village. They built the school, the church of the Archangels (foundation 1937) personal work and considerable financial assistance of compatriots of America. The first regular bus service to Thessaloniki in the spring of 1946 by sea. In the spring of 1952 completed the work of Marmara-bodied street Nikiti.
Thus N. Marmaras acquired by road to the rest of Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki.  In 1959 approval was granted power and Roll in 1961 was the first census.  Then N. Marmaras had 1200 inhabitants.  In 1975 he became the New Aqueduct and ydrodotithike most of the village. The 1979-80 was the construction of the new municipal offices on the ground floor which will house the school for seven years.  In 1985 construction of the Paschalakeio Cultural Center in place of the old municipal offices (land granted by the Community).  The building was donated by compatriot Artemisia Paschalaki. Since 1987 the School of Neos Marmaras operating in the area is now ..  Residents of the village is around 3,000.Engaged in fishing, agriculture (vineyards, olive), beekeeping, hunting, but mainly in tourism.

Τhe village has many tourists from May to October, as shown by the population of which is the summer to 20,000.  In the village there are hotels including the hotel complex of Porto Carras.  This is the biggest in the Balkans, with three hotels with 2,500 beds, modern meeting rooms, theater and film option deal with all kinds of sports (golf, tennis, surfing, sailing, fishing), organizing sporting events, sailing championships, golf, cycling, chess, etc. At Porto Carras is the only private marina of Northern Greece and one of the largest vineyards in Europe with wines Numerator origin, well-established Greek and international market. On this large undertaking many residents find employment in N. Marmaras and neighboring villages. Furthermore, Neos Marmaras are about 100 modern units rented rooms, supermarkets and shops of folk art, taverns, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, car hire companies and bus stations, taxis, hairdressers, pharmacy, microbiology laboratory, dental office. There are school tai kwo do, gyms aerobics, diving schools. Τhe village has a football team (AEO Propondis), men's basketball team, teenagers, children, women (MRL Neos Marmaras).  The cultural and folklore collection "The Proikonnisos" develops many activities among which is organizing the annual festival "Memories of the old Fatherland" which usually includes a representation of the consular-engagement and Joy (marriage) as were the unforgettable Fatherland and Reports traditional house, photography, books, scripts, pictures, and utensils of worship, collecting sea shells, agricultural tools, the bride's dowry-nyfostoli etc.
Other clubs have been established are the Association of Residents of New Parthenon Sithonia "The Neopartheniotes" and the Cultural Association of Old Residents Parthenon "The Parthenon" organized than other so-called festival on July 27.  It is relatively new village and thus justify the lack of archaeological monuments. However, the region of Halkidiki is ideal for archaeological tour of prehistoric sites (cave Petralona), historical (Toroni, Agios Nikolaos, Stagira, Akanthos, Potidea, etc.), Byzantine monuments (monasteries of Mount Athos).

In more than twenty kilometers of coastline in the area pine trees descending to the sea. Visitors can enjoy the blue and pristine beaches of Paradise, Grigoriatikou, Koutsoupias, Azapiko and the coast in N. Marmaras, which timountai each year with the European Blue Flag for cleanliness of the sea, the coast and the environment. Around the Marmara there are numerous small ports and in areas outside the village are beautiful, small, isolated beaches and clusters of small islands (Spalathronisia). Visitors can visit the coastline by boat or by sea or by car / motorcycle and enjoy the crystal-clear blue-green sea and golden sun. Interestingly, islet shell with wild goats, with its rich fishing grounds and the wonderful bed is a paradise for divers photographers.  In the summer day trips such as: circumnavigation of Mount Athos, the Toronean bay cruise, biking, mountain walks, bird watching, etc., Greek evenings with live music and other cultural events and folk festivals.  N. Marmaras lies on the road of Sithonia and is associated with long-distance transport and the villages of the peninsula, such as Toroni, Sikia, Sarti, Vourvourou, Nikiti, Agios Nikolaos. There are also daily services linking the village with Thessaloniki, passing Moudania or Polygyros. The village offers public services such as Cottage Hospital, Banks (National, Eurobank), OTE, Post, Postal Savings Bank, Customs, Port Authority.
